Guidelines for New Writers

Otter Track Press is a small indie lit press located in Alabama, home to such diverse writers as Truman Capote, Harper Lee, and Zora Neale Hurston. We are interested in publishing the work of new writers and will accept a limited number of unsolicited manuscripts for review as well as all agented manuscripts provided they comply with the following guidelines.

Query Letter

Otter Track publishes only literary fiction and creative non-fiction in short and long forms. We do not publish religious/inspirational, political, or self-help manuscripts. Before submitting a manuscript, send us an email "query letter" describing your work and intended audience:

ottertrackpress@mrose.com

We will respond to your email with a go/no-go on whether your work fits our publishing agenda.

Formatting

All manuscripts should:

  • Be the writer's best and final version of their work.
  • Be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double spaced, 1 inch margins.
  • Be spell checked and free of grammatical errors - this is your craft and a statement of your skill as a writer.
  • Be numbered and have the authors name in a running header.
  • Include a Title page, Acknowledgments page, body, and a brief bio in that order.
  • Include the authors name, email, and mail address on the title page below the title.

Submission Requirements

All manuscripts should:

  • Be submitted in electronic form (Word or Open Office formats only) to: ottertrackpress@mrose.com
  • Include in the cover letter (email) a description of the work and intended audience.
  • The cover letter (email) must include the authors actual name, email, and mail address.
